The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) continues to help in the flood-affected western Maharashtra. It has helped to remove animal carcasses and restore water supply. The Mumbai Fire Brigade is helping with the relief work.

Mumbai Municipal Commissioner Praveen Pardeshi is overlooking relief and rehabilitation in Sangli and Kolhapur districts. The BMC has already pressed more than 500 staffers from various departments in service.

It has dispatched 20 senior veterinary officers to Sangli to oversee the disposal of carcasses. It has also sent staff from pest control department to prevent disease outbreak, and a team of 20 from the fire brigade.

Along with the Sangli-Miraj-Kupwad Municipal Corporation, the BMC has restored water supply to the city by restoring one pumping station. Another will be restored soon. Similar work will be done in Kolhapur.

The staff is helping with cleaning debris, collecting spoilt belongings from houses, spraying insecticide, among other things.
