Mumbai: The Bombay High Court will hear the bail plea of Hindutva leader Milind Ekbote, an accused in the Bhima-Koregaon violence, on February 2.
Meanwhile, Justice B.R. Gavai of the High Court recused himself from hearing the plea. The matter will now be heard by a Division Bench of Justice S.C. Dharmadhikari and Justice Bharati Dangre.
On January 23, the Pune sessions court rejected his bail application and said that the violence during the bicentenary celebrations of the battle of Bhima-Koregaon on January 1 was a grave matter, and that Mr. Ekbote faced very serious charges.
According to Mr. Ekbote’s counsel, the Hindutva leader could not have been present at the time of the clash as he had been under police protection for several days. Two FIRs were lodged against Mr. Ekbote, who is executive president of Samasta Hindu Aghadi, and Sambhaji Bhide, who heads Shiv Pratishthan Hindustan.
