Mumbai: The Viral Fever (TVF) founder and CEO Arunabh Kumar, who is facing two counts of sexual harassment, stepped down from his post on Friday. In a statement released on Twitter, Mr. Kumar said the decision was taken “in the wake of recent personal attacks.”

In March, a woman who worked with TVF 2014 and 2016 wrote a blog accusing him of sexual harassment. While she did not identify herself, several former TVF women employees came forward within a few hours and accused Mr. Kumar of sexual harassment. Two of them also filed FIRs with the city police.

The first FIR was filed at MIDC police station on March 17 after one of the victims came forward. The second FIR was filed at Versova police station a day later. Police have questioned Mr Kumar several times and will be filing a charge sheet soon.

In the statement, Mr. Kumar said, “A lot has happened in the last three months which has mentally and emotionally drained me. However, I have faith and confidence that eventually truth will prevail. Through this all, it has become clearer to me that what was and always continue to be most important is – TVF.” He also announced that Dhawal Gusain will be new CEO.

“In the wake of the recent personal attacks, what really breaks me is the blemish on the brand's true promise. I have therefore taken the decision to step down as the CEO of TVF. I will be available as a mentor for the content team as they continue to deliver the stories that you love us for,” the statement added.
