Admissions to FYJC to start in a few days

First Year Junior College (FYJC) admissions in Maharashtra will begin in the next two to three days, education department officials have said. Students and parents were left wondering after the admissions timetable was not put up on Monday as per usual practice.

The Secondary School Certificate (SSC) or Class X results were announced on Saturday, and the timetable is usually announced a day later.

With the State recording the lowest pass percentage in the last six years, experts and students have expressed concerns over the admissions for the State board students.

“We upload the data of the SSC students to our portal after which the schedule of the admission process commences. This year the result was declared on Saturday and the next day was a Sunday. On Monday, the procedure to upload the data has started and in two to three days, our admission schedule will commence,” Rajendra Ahire, deputy director of education, said.

Students have to fill Part I of the form before the result and Part II after it is declared. Till Monday evening, the office of deputy director of education had received 1,24,148 Part I applications. To fill Part II, State board students’ marks are available on the portal, while those from other boards have to manually fill them.

Students will have to pick a stream, medium of instruction and preferred junior colleges— minimum one and maximum 10.

“After any round of admission, students can log in to check which college they have got into,” another official said.

While filling the Part I form is essential for Part II, some schools in Mumbai have not filled the former. “Such schools can fill up the Part I form still or fill up both the forms when the Part II form is being filled,” Mr. Ahire said.

Meanwhile, the Mumbai Divisional Board received 620 applications for photocopying and re-evaluation of answer sheets from SSC students. “Students can apply both online and offline till June 29,” Sharad Khandagle, secretary, Mumbai divisional board, said.
