3 hurt in collision on Palm Beach Road

The Innova’s driver jumped a signal

Three people, including an Archaeological Survey of India official, were seriously injured in a collision between an Ola taxi and an Innova on Palm Beach Road on Thursday morning.

Atul Kumar Bhargava (48), a Superintending Archaeologist with the Archaeologival Survey of India, was accompanying his daughter Devyanshi (16), a Class XI student of Delhi Public School (DPS), Nerul, when the Innova they were in collided against an Ola Swift coming from CBD Belapur.

According to police, Hemant Jadhav, who was driving an Innova that belongs to Mr. Bhargava’s friend, jumped a signal and took the right turn to the school, crashing into the Swift that was coming from Belapur. Passengers in both cars were hurt.

“The left side of the Swift rammed into the left side of the Innova, and hence, neither of the drivers sustained major injuries. The Ola passenger, who was on his way to the domestic airport and the father-daughter duo in the Innova were hurt,” said Assistant Sub-Inspector Chand Khot from NRI Coastal Police Station.

While the father and daughter, who were admitted to Sahyadri Hospital in Nerul are in a coma, Vivel Modi, the Belapur resident who was in the Ola, fractured his right leg and was admitted to Apollo hospital.

Mr. Bharadwaj, a Sion resident, was dropping his daughter to school at 7 a.m. when the accident took place at the DPS signal. A case against Jadhav has been registered with the NRI Coastal police.
