The Bandra police on Monday arrested a 24-year-old Dharavi resident for allegedly recording risky stunts of himself on his motorcycle and uploading them on popular video platforms like YouTube and Tik Tok.

According to the Bandra police, inquiries were initiated into the matter after the videos went viral and were brought to the attention of some senior police officers.

Deputy Commissioner of Police Sandeep Bhajibhakare, Traffic (Suburbs) said, “The videos, in which the accused was seen doing wheelies and other stunts, went viral on Sunday night and after examining them, we identified the area where they were shot as Bandra Reclamation.”

Using the social media profiles of the accused, the traffic police identified him as Adnan Shaikh (24) and inquiries with the Regional Transport Office established that he is a resident of the Dharavi area. The traffic police registered an offence of rash driving or riding in a public way and endangering life or personal safety of others under the Indian Penal Code, along with relevant sections of the Motor Vehicles Act.

“It took around three hours for us to trace the person in the video. Once we found that the accused is a resident of Dharavi, a team led by police sub-inspector Bhimsen Gaikwad arrested him around 4 p.m. on Monday,” senior police inspector Girish Anaokar, Bandra police station said.

Mr. Bhajibhakare added that Mr. Shaikh, who is a model by profession, claims that the video was shot back in 2016.

“We are investigating as to when the video was shot and further action will be taken accordingly, ” Mr Bhajibhakare said.

The YouTube details of the videos, however, state that they were uploaded August 24, 2018.

As of Monday, the videos had around 30,000 views.
