The Thane unit of the Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) has arrested two constables working at Taloja jail for accepting a bribe from a 32-year-old man whose father is an undertrial at the jail.

The constables had demanded ₹20,000 from the complainant in exchange for taking proper care of his father, an undertrial under the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA). The complainant had paid ₹5,000 to the accused, Somnibg Katyapa Kamble (27) and Mahesh Sahebrao Yadav (34) of Sector 35E, Kharghar.

On Wednesday evening, the complainant was supposed to pay the remaining amount. Mr. Yadav was caught red-handed while accepting ₹15,000 from the complainant. Mr. Kamble was arrested later as he was the one who had demanded the money.

“In the interrogation, the accused have said that the jailer made them demand the bribe, but we haven’t found any concrete evidence against him as of now. We are investigating the allegation,” inspector Dhanaji Jalak from ACB, Thane unit, said.

Both the accused have been remanded in police custody till Saturday.
