Two people were seriously injured and several others suffered minor injuries after a fire broke at Bhuleshwar’s crowded Null Bazar on Saturday. Eyewitnesses said the fire started in three shops inside Dawood Darwez building and spread to a wedding party, causing guests to suffer burns. A shopkeeper suffered minor injuries while a 35-year-old man was rushed to JJ Hospital with 50% burns.

Atul Shah, former MLA and councillor of the area, said, “I received a call from residents and rushed to the area. The fire started because combustible material in the shops caught fire.” Eyewitnesses said the fire brigade arrived late, but was able to douse the blaze.

Meanwhile, a fire broke out in a godown in Crawford Market at 6.28 p.m. Fire brigade officials said the blaze, a Level II emergency, started on the second floor of the three-storey Super Shopping Centre, located between Sarang Street and Abdul Rehman Street.

“There is a godown on the second floor, which was closed when the fire broke out. No casualties have been reported,” a fire officer said. Two firemen were however taken to Nair Hospital after suffering from suffocation. Fire officials said that firemen Santosh Salvi and Swapnil Dudhavkar were hospitalised and were in a stable condition.
