Ghatkopar police have arrested two persons who were allegedly behind a string of burglaries in the city. Stolen valuables worth over ₹5 lakh were recovered from them. The accused have been identified as Anand Sakpal (20) and Ajay Devkar (22). The police said the duo was arrested from Ghatkopar on Tuesday.

Akhilesh Singh, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone VII), said, “The security guards would hardly stop the accused from entering residential buildings as they used to wear expensive clothes and shoes. They would ring the doorbells of flats at random to check if the residents were at home. After identifying an empty flat, they would enter it by scaling the drainpipes.”

The accused are allegedly behind burglaries in Ghatkopar, Matunga, Borivali, Goregaon, Versova and the Bandra Kurla Complex. They have confessed to their involvement in 11 cases of burglary.

“The duo has been active for the last two years and used to strike during summer vacations,” said an officer with Ghatkopar police. The police have recovered two digital cameras and gold jewellery worth ₹5.85 lakh from the accused.
