A 15-year-old girl committed suicide in her Sion residence on Monday afternoon.

According to the Antop Hill police, the girl stayed in the slums behind the Sardar Nagar area with her parents and four siblings. She was a Class IX student in the K.D. Gaikwad Municipal School in Sion, police said.

Senior Inspector of Police, Sudarshan Paithankar, Antophill police station said, the girl returned home from school on Monday afternoon as per her usual time, after which her mother left to pick up her siblings from school.

“[The victim’s] mother returned a short while later to find that she had committed suicide. Her three-year-old brother was sleeping in the house at the time,” Mr. Paithankar said.

The girl was rushed to the Sion Hospital where she was declared dead before admission, and the Antop Hill police were subsequently informed.

“We are still awaiting post mortem reports but there have been no indications of foul play in investigations so far. We have registered an Accidental Death Report and are conducting further inquiries. No motive behind the extreme step has come to light so far,” Mr. Paithankar added.
