Residents of Shivaji Nagar in Govandi were in for a shock on Monday night when they went running to investigate their neighbour’s screams. They walked into her house to find her lying in a pool of blood, a knife sticking from her back, and her 12-year-old student sitting beside her.

According to the Shivaji Nagar police, the incident occurred in Plot No 26 around 8.30 p.m. on Monday. They said the deceased, Ayesha Husaiya (30), stayed by herself and gave tuitions to school children in the area.

“The accused, a Class VII student, would visit her house for tuitions after school along with other children of the locality. He attended tuitions as per his daily routine on Monday and left around 7.30 p.m. with everyone else. However, he returned to her house a short while later,” an officer with the Shivaji Nagar police said.

Ayesha’s front door was open at the time and she was washing her face in the bathroom when he reached the house. He went to the kitchen and picked up a knife before going to the bathroom where he stabbed her in the back. A stunned Ayesha started screaming and managed to reach the front door even as he kept stabbing her. She collapsed at the door.

“Neighbours who heard her scream, ran to check and were shocked to see the blood-soaked boy sitting calmly on the floor, while Ayesha was lying face down with the knife sticking out of her back. They rushed her to a local hospital where she was declared dead before admission, while the boy locked himself inside her house,” the officer said.

A team of policemen, after being informed by the locals, rushed to the spot and coaxed the boy to open the door, after which they started questioning him in front of his parents, who had also reached by then.

“It appears that the boy was harbouring hatred for Ayesha as she did not behave well with his mother a few days ago when she asked Ayesha for a small loan to buy some essentials,” assistant commissioner of police Vishwapal Bhujbal, Deonar division, said.

The boy has been booked for murder under the Indian Penal Code. He was produced before a juvenile court on Tuesday and sent to remand home in Dongri.
