Yechury to open memorial meet

Communist Party of India (Marxist) General Secretary Sitaram Yechury will open a national seminar on ‘Reclaiming secular democracy: the need for a new agenda’ organised to commemorate the fourth death anniversary of writer and film-maker Chintha Ravi at Town Hall here on July 4. Eminent writers from various parts of the State will attend the seminar, which will start at 4 p.m. As part of the memorial meet, a photo exhibition on Ravi will be arranged at the venue at 10 a.m.

Collections of seasoned photographers will be on display.

The New World Disorder — a book carrying the second edition of the Chintha Ravi memorial lecture by writer and film-maker Tariq Ali will be released on the occasion.

The book, edited by Sashi Kumar, Chairman, Asian College of Journalism, also carries an exclusive interview with Mr. Ali.

On Saturday, a 17-member organising committee was formed to host the commemoration programme.

The former Mayor Thottathil Raveendran heads the committee.
