All arrangements are in place to greet new comers to various city schools on Monday when a new academic year starts.

The district-level ‘Pravesanolsavam’ — the formal ceremony of receiving the tiny tots to school — will be held at Elettil Government Model Upper Primary School.

Minister for Panchayat and Social Justice M.K. Muneer will inaugurate the district-level functions in the presence of parents, students, and people’s representatives. V.M. Ummer, MLA, will preside over the function.

To mark the opening of the new academic year at the school, the key of a new house built for one of the students at the school will be handed over to the beneficiary.

The house was built after collecting donations from teachers and students. M.K. Raghavan, MP, will hand over the key under the project titled ‘Sahapadikkoru Veedu’ (home for a fellow classmate).

Special educational kit of the government to the newly admitted students will be distributed on the occasion.

District panchayat president Kanathil Jameela will hand over the kits.

Free uniforms and felicitation for students who won LSS and USS scholarships too will be given as part of the ‘Pravesanolsavam’ function.

Officials said no fewer than any 78 students already secured admission at the school in Malayalam medium.

The number of students who secured admission in the English medium category was 44.

Currently, the school was having a total population of 1,160 students in its 25 divisions.

The school was selected on the basis of the total number of new admissions for the new academic year.
