UDF confident of wresting power

October 31, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:39 am IST - Kozhikode:

The United Democratic Front (UDF) is all set to end the four-decade-old rule of the Left Democratic Front (LDF) in the City Corporation, UDF leaders M.K. Muneer, Minister for Panchayat, and M.K. Raghavan, MP, have said.

Addressing a joint press conference here on Friday at the end of a three-day road show undertaken across the 75 wards of the Corporation, the leaders said the people in the city, especially in the CPI(M)-dominant areas, were highly disappointed of what was happening under their nose for the last several decades.

The absence of a sense of direction is palpable in every aspect of the administration, said Dr. Muneer.

Stating that the Corporation was a total failure in conceiving or implementing any imaginative developmental project for the city, Mr. Muneer said that the Corporation could only utilise just 47 per cent of its Plan fund during the last term.

No development

“The city that witnessed no substantial development in terms of its road infrastructure during the last several years could make no single positive stride in the sphere of arts, sports or culture,” said he said.

Rubbishing the allegations of a UDF-BJP “secret alliance” in several wards of the Corporation, the UDF leaders said such a charge was only an anticipatory bail by the LDF, which smelt a rout in the elections.

Many of its councillors, including the Deputy Mayor, were facing serious corruption charges.
