Three persons travelling in an autorickshaw were killed after it collided with a van on the National Highway at Chathannur, shortly after Monday midnight.

Another three, travelling in the same autorickshaw, were seriously injured. They were admitted to the Government Medical College Hospital, Thiruvananthapuram.

Shiyas Thajuddin, 21, the autorickshaw driver and native of Kalluvathukkal; Rajesh Balakrishnan, 35, and Saji Soman, 36, both from Paripally; were those killed. Those injured were identified as Lathika, 36, her husband, Sasankan, 45; and Mahesh, 36. Rajesh Balakrishnan was Mahesh’s brother-in-law, the police said.

They had gone to a hospital at Chathannur, in Shiyas’ autorickshaw, after Lathika sustained a hand injury in a fall.

The accident occurred when they were returning to Kavadikonam in Paripally, the police said. The van was on its way to Ernakulam.

The three were declared ‘dead on arrival.’ The Chathannur police have registered a case.
