The marvel of ‘Chavittunatakam’ with its punchy pounding and pulsating music was a treat for the audience at the Nalanda auditorium, here, on Monday.

Over 20 teams from various parts of Kerala took part in the higher secondary-level competition. Though the allotted 20 minutes limited the scope of staging a full version of the centuries-old stamping drama, the jam-packed venue testified to the popularity of the art form among the younger generation.

Teams from Alappuzha, Ernakulam, Kottayam, Thrissur, Palakkad and Kozhikode enlivened the show with their artfully chiselled presentations woven on fresh stories, costumes and music. Most of them opted for the re-enactment of olden heroic stories leaving several memorable scenes and moments.

Thampi Payyappalli, a well-known trainer in the field who brought seven district-level teams to the Kozhikode city for the competition, said the response from viewers was very inspiring to move with the art ahead.

“They responded very quickly to the stories with claps and welcomed most of the new experiments we made to popularise the art,” he added.
