Seminar to focus on economics of gender

January 29, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:36 am IST - Kozhikode:

How and why men and women are different in economic activities? Why do women earn less than men? Do changes in female labour force participation lead to changes in the home, political, and social environment? A seminar on ‘Economics of gender’ organised by the Department of Economics of Zamorin’s Guruvayurappan College here intends to find answer to these questions and more. The two-day national seminar will be held with the help of the UGC at the college on Thursday and Friday.

It will be inaugurated by Minister for Social Welfare M.K. Muneer on Thursday. Former Finance Minister T.M. Thomas Isaac will deliver the keynote address on ‘Status of women in Kerala: economic perspective.’ Women’s rights activists, social workers, and economics experts will take part.
