Residents of the city have expressed concern over the delay in carrying out maintenance works on several city roads.

A recent meeting convened by the apex council of city residents said the Corporation authorities have failed to carry out their promises to carry out road maintenance works. The contractors who bagged the tenders for the works were found delaying the works, they alleged.

“Mobile repair units were supposed to be introduced in the city for conducting spot works, but nothing happened even after several months. It would have been a temporary solution to the issue in many locations,” said K.P. Abdul Latheef, president of the Residents’ Apex Council of Kozhikode. He alleged that the delay in completing the works was leading to more road accidents.

The apex council would launch a series of indefinite agitations, including dharna and marches, to draw the attention of the authorities. “We want the contractors to execute the work at the earliest,” they said.

The residents would also take up the increasing stray dog menace in the city limits, where children are the victims.

Association leaders pointed out that there were several incidents reported within the last four days.

The residents’ association leaders pointed out that the street dog sterilisation programme was a fiasco in the city as the project had not taken off yet.

As permission was yet to be granted to kill stray dogs, the Corporation was doing nothing, they claimed.
