Reading Week fete inaugurated

The Gandhi Peace Foundation organised a special book fair in connection with the observance at the Gandhi Griham.

Reading can make one think and act wisely, according to District Collector N. Prasanth

Inaugurating the Reading Week celebrations at the district level at the Government Girls’ Vocational Higher Secondary School, Nadakkavu, here on Friday, the Collector said that it was through reading that the window of wisdom gets opened for any one who aspired to be a refined human being.

“One should be able to absorb new ideas and positive values by reading good books,” he said

Mr. Prasanth, who read out a few lines from a book on the legendary sailor Kunhali Marakkar -- jointly written by historian K.K.N. Kurup and E. Ismael, on the occasion also exhorted the new generation to develop reading habit in whichever form they liked including online reading.

Various cultural forums including S.K. Pottekkatt Cultural Centre, Gandhi Peace Foundation and Kozhikode Public Library and Research Centre besides different educational institutions including schools organised programmes as part of the observance in the district.

Writer K.P. Sudheera, winner of the Akka Maha Devi literary Award, was felicitated during a public function organised by the S.K. Pottekkatt Cultural Centre.
