Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee president Mullappally Ramachandran has called for an inquiry into the alleged corruption in connection with Amrut project in the Kozhikode Corporation.
Leading a march to the Corporation office here on Monday, he alleged that the Corporation had become a fertile ground for corruption by the Communist Party of India (Marxist) cadres over the last half a century the party had ruled it.
“We can’t tolerate this corruption. The Corporation is ruled by a people who go after money and the rich,” he said claiming that the civic body was devoid of corruption when the Congress and its allies ruled it.
Mr. Ramachandran alleged that corruption had taken place in all the projects executed by the Corporation and that it has now degraded itself to giving away contracts to paper companies. He urged the public to join hands against corruption and to get the Corporation back on track.
The KPCC chief claimed that the Congress would reclaim the Corporation in the forthcoming local body polls.
District Congress Committee president T. Siddique presided over the protest meet.
Four marches led by Congress activists began from different parts of the beach to converge at the Corporation office premises. They raised slogans against the Corporation council and the Mayor and sat down on the road near the gate. KPCC general secretaries N. Subrahmanian and K.P. Anil Kumar and Congress councillors of the Corporation took part in the march.
