The Nadakkavu police, led by Circle Inspector Prakasan Padannayil, have started a detailed investigation into an incident in which a girl from Bangladesh was brought to the city for suspected flesh trade. The incident came to light on Friday when the girl, who claimed to have escaped from the rape attempts of some men, sought shelter at the Nadakkavu station.
According to the police, the girl was staying in an apartment near Eranhipalam in the city with a man, claimed to be her husband. Both of them were on a national tour and came to the city following the invitation of some persons whom they met during the train journey, the police said.
On Thursday, some of the residents in the apartment found the girl running out of the building in search of help with a claim that she was assaulted by a group of men in the apartment in the absence of her roommate. As per the statement, the attackers were some of the men whom they met during the train journey.
Police sources said there were several suspicious angles in the incident and the statement given by the girl. Investigations would be conducted into the incident after verifying various documents, including the girl’s passport and details of marriage. Police officers also said the girl would be temporarily accommodated at a rescue home.
