Fourteen-year-old Amana Ashraf from Ponnani has been on cloud nine since she got a letter from New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern two days ago.

The personal letter Ms. Ardern wrote to Amana on the New Zealand Prime Minister’s letterhead had all the stuff to fill a student’s heart with joy.

Amana, a 10th standard student at Ansar English School, Perumbilavu, got the letter from New Zealand in reply to the one she had written to Ms. Ardern on July 20, greeting the youngest prime minister of that country on her 39th birthday (July 26). Amana had conveyed her regards and love to Ms. Ardern, describing her as a “prime minister who defeated hate with love.”

She had also conveyed her love and regards to Ms. Ardern’s one-year-old daughter Neve.

Amana said she was surprised to get a “beautiful and personal reply” from the New Zealand Prime Minister, who said “Neve is very well; she’s growing up so quickly. It’s amazing to hear her start to speak (she now says ‘hi’ to everyone she sees!).”

Thanking Amana for her letter and words of encouragement, Ms. Ardern said that such expression of solidarity had helped New Zealand.

“Knowing that we have friends around the world, who are prepared to stand with us to spread love and solidarity rather than hatred and division, has given us strength,” Ms. Arden wrote.

She said she had heard about Kerala and its spectacular beauty. “I hope to see it for myself one day,” she said.
