The police will record the statement of officials from the Vadakara Regional Transport Office on Monday as part of their investigation into a recent incident in which three vehicles parked on the Department premises were vandalised by unidentified persons.

The police said the Motor Vehicles Department (MVD) had claimed a loss of ₹25,000 in the incident, in which the windshields of all the three vehicles were smashed. “Only the MVD vehicles were targeted, and we have reasons to believe that it was done purposely,” they said.

The damaged vehicles included the one used by the Regional Transport Officer for official duty. The other vehicles were those used by Assistant Motor Vehicles Inspectors for routine inspections.

Although there were around 10 other vehicles owned by various government departments on the premises, they were not targeted by the attackers.

Vadakara Station House Officer J.E. Jayan said the vehicles were found damaged early on Saturday morning. “We have registered a case and the investigation will be strengthened after collecting the statement of the MVD officers,” he said.

MVD sources said the incident was suspected to be an act of revenge by some who had recently faced stern legal action from the Department for various violations. An unidentified gang had manhandled an Assistant Motor Vehicles Inspector from Koyilandy for strict enforcement of rules, they said.
