To monitor the enforcement of the green protocol during the Lok Sabha elections, the Kozhikode district administration on Saturday set up a nine-member committee comprising officials from various government departments. The committee members were selected during a district-level meeting chaired by District Collector Seeram Sambasiva Rao to discuss election arrangements.

Coordinators of Haritha Keralam Mission and District Suchitwa Mission and officials from the Excise Department were included in the committee. Officials said the new committee would be responsible for overseeing the implementation of the green protocol and reporting suspected violations directly to the District Collector.

For differently abled

The arrangements to be made for ensuring that polling booths are differently abled friendly were discussed at a separate district-level meeting attended by the nodal officers and heads of various government departments. A survey to find the number of differently abled voters who will be in need of assistance on the day of polling will be completed soon in the district.

Sub Collector V. Vigneswari and Assistant Collector K.S. Anju were entrusted with the responsibility of coordinating the initiatives. They will work along with the Social Justice Department officials. Suggestions from various organisations constituted for the welfare of differently abled citizens will be sought to make the arrangements.

Training for squads

The first phase of training for various squads constituted to ensure fair election campaigning and voting procedure was held at the Collectorate on Saturday. Members who are part of Static Surveillance Squad, Anti-Defacement Squad, Flying Squad and Video Surveillance Squad attended the training session.

Mr. Rao, who is also the District Election Officer, asked the squads to take stringent action to remove illegally erected campaign material in public places. He also asked them to remove campaign material on private properties that were put up without obtaining prior permission.
