The Government Vocational Higher Secondary School for Girls (GVHSS) at Nadakkavu here has recorded 100 per cent results in the SSLC examinations.
Twenty one out of the 393 students who appeared in the examination secured A+ for all subjects — a 400 per cent increase in A+ grades from 2012, a press release said here on Monday.
Recent achievements
The result is the latest among a clutch of recent achievements of the school. It was recently ranked among the top five government day schools in the country by Education World, an education portal.
The school’s achievements enabled KEF Holdings and Faizal and Shabana Foundation, which initiated the drastic changes in the school’s teaching methods and infrastructure, to be shortlisted for the 2015 Responsible Business Awards instituted by the Prince Charles Charities in the U.K.
P.K. Saseendran, school Principal, attributed the success to the rigors of academic life, ambitious extracurricular programmes, hard work and dedication of students and teachers. On the award nomination, Faizal E. Kottikollon, founder and chairman, KEF Holdings, said that the success of the school was being acknowledged internationally.
“I would like to congratulate the students, teachers community, and the parents for continuing and building on the achievements of the past year. I am especially honoured to share that these results speaks volumes about what we have achieved together.”
Nine-month project
The changes were initiated in early 2013 when Faizal and Shabana Foundation, part of the UAE-based KEF Holdings, joined hands with A. Pradeepkumar, MLA, and the Indian Institute of Management, Kozhikode, to plan, fund and execute a nine-month project that transformed GVHSS Nadakkavu. The partnership also devised a training programme for teachers. “It is a tribute to the commitment of the teachers and the students. I want to reiterate that the journey has just begun and we have miles to go. The dream is to transform public education in Kerala,” Mr. Pradeepkumar said.
Today, over 2,400 girls study in the upper primary, high school, higher secondary, and vocational higher secondary levels.
