OP ward for transgender persons at general hospital

To function on Wednesdays

January 25, 2019 12:51 am | Updated 12:51 am IST - Kozhikode

An outpatient ward exclusively for transgender persons opened at the Government General Hospital, Kozhikode, on Thursday.

The OP ward will function on Wednesdays, like the general OP section. Those visiting the ward will be given a pink slip and the service is free. A doctor has been deputed exclusively to attend to the patients there. The decision to start the special OP ward was taken in view of the alleged discrimination being faced by transgender persons in hospitals. Though the inaugural event was scheduled months ago, it was postponed. The district legal service authority had to intervene to start the facility.
