Monday’s bus fares to go to CM’s fund

Around 1,000 private buses in the district will be on the roads for a purpose on September 3. The fares collected on the day will be donated to the Chief Minister’s Distress Relief Fund to help flood victims in the State.

M. Abdul Nazar, president, Kozhikode District Bus Operators Association, told the media on Thursday that members of private bus owners’ organisations in all other districts except Kannur and Kasaragod would also take part in the initiative on the same day. He claimed that the bus staff had been instructed not to compulsorily collect money from passengers. Additional charge too would not be levied and members of the association would be present during trips to ensure this.

Some bus operators running services to Kuttiyadi and Vadakara had already conducted a similar drive. Mr. Nazar urged students to avoid travelling on concession ticket on the day and said those with private vehicles could use public transport for a day.
