An excise squad led by Deputy Commissioner P.K. Suresh nabbed a 38-year-old man hailing from Pantheerankavu with 1.5 kg of brown sugar on Thursday. Savad Mammadkoya was detained following a tip-off received by the Excise Shadow Wing.
Excise officials said Savad was a convict in a similar case while he as working in Kuwait nearly three years ago. “The man was deported after the jail term but he continued to maintain his contacts with the prisoners there and secretly worked as their carrier from India,” they said. – Staff Reporter
