: A liquefied petroleum gas-laden (LPG) bullet tanker lorry overturned on the State Highway near Pinarayi in Kannur district early Thursday.

The police said the tanker lorry proceeding from Mangaluru to Kozhikode rammed an electric post while negotiating a curve at Olayambalam at 1.30 a.m. There driver and the cleaner of the vehicle, who sustained minor injuries, were admitted to the Thalassery Cooperative Hospital. The local people said the driver may have lost control of the vehicle when negotiating a hole dug up by the Kerala Water Authority for repairing a drinking water pipe. Families in the areas took refuge in safer places when they learnt that the vehicle was an LPG-laden lorry.

“Fortunately there was no gas leak. The people in the area were also evacuated by the police and the Fire and Rescue Services team. Traffic was also diverted,” said Dinendra Kashyap, DIG, Kannur Range.
