The Keraleeyam award of the Pravasi Chamber of Commerce of India will go to historian M.G.S. Narayanan.
Ghulam Hussain Kolakkadan, chairman of the chamber’s organising committee, said at a press conference here on Friday that the ₹10,001 award was in honour of Mr.Narayanan's contribution to the development of Kozhikode, his involvement in the fight for the Karipur International Airport, and also his contributions to various other sectors including the fight for the development the Mananchira-Vellimadukunnu Road.
At an event to be held on Saturday, several eminent people would be honoured. They include Gurukulam Babu (Shilparatnam), Matti Muhammed (Chitraratnam), Sajid Koroth (Pravasi Ratnam), Latha Kumar (Karma Ratnam) and Rajan Vengad (Karshika Ratnam).
Meanwhile, special awards are being provided to activist Jaleel Chaliyam for his involvement with Theruvinte Makkal charitable trust and social worker Usha Kumari, besides Vidyaratnam award to Government Higher Secondary School, Cheruvadi.
K.Muraleedharan, MLA, and M.K.Raghavan, MP, will be the guests of honour at the event to be held at 6 p.m. District Panchayat President Babu Parasseri will release the souvenir.
