October 22, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:40 am IST - KOZHIKODE:

The Nadapuram police have started investigation into a recent incident in which around 12 women from various parts of Vadakara were allegedly cheated by a Kannur native offering fake job openings as teachers in a leading school from the area.

Police officials said the incident came to light as one of the victims, who lost around Rs.1 lakh in the fraud, filed a written petition against the accused. “There is still no idea on the total amount defrauded by the man, who is absconding now,” they said.

As per the statement of the victims, the accused hailing from Chokli, conducted even a fake interview to win the trust of the job applicants and demand money in the name of confirmed placements. There were even a panel of members in the fake interview board to convince the candidates, the police said.

“Since the projected vacancies were in Lower and Upper Kindergarten sections, only women candidates attended the interview, which helped the man to easily operate the fraud,” said a senior police officer from Nadapuram station.

He said all the 12 women were well educated and waiting for appointment letters after paying the sum.
