The four-day Onam-Bakrid special trade fair under the Integrated Rural Development Programme (IRDP) and the Swarnajayanti Gram Swarozgar Yojana (SGSY) will begin at Kandamkulam Jubilee Memorial Hall here on August 20. Village entrepreneurs from both Kozhikode and Wayanad districts will participate in the seasonal fair.

A district-level committee chaired by District Panchayat President Babu Parassery will look into the organisation of the annual fair.

Various sub-committees too have been formed for setting up stalls for the participating units.

Organisers said the fair was expected to unveil the craftsmanship and creative ventures of rural entrepreneurs from the two districts. Last year, the fair generated a total profit of ₹3.50 lakh through the sale of village products, they added.

This time, the fair will stick to the green protocol. Facilities for proper management of waste will be arranged at the venue. A volunteers’ team will be constituted under Kudumbasree to ensure better coordination.

Cultural shows too will be part of the fair. Kudumbasree entrepreneurs and members of prominent tribal groups will showcase their talents during the cultural show. Best-performing local bodies will be honoured at the valedictory ceremony.
