The Town police will shortly record the statement of Sirajudheen Kodungalloor, one of the four persons caught with invalid currency notes worth ₹1.2 crore, by a Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) squad from Kozhikode.
The case, registered on the basis of a petition filed by the DRI team, will be investigated by a sub-inspector from Town police station. Although Sirajudheen has already been booked on the charge, the three others, reportedly natives of Kochi and Thrissur, are still at large. Their whereabouts have been traced and they too will be summoned after recording the statement of the first accused.
The police say the possession of invalid notes is a bailable offence now, where the accused can escape from criminal proceedings on remittance of the fine amount fixed by the government.
It was on May 15 that the DRI team detained Sirajudheen from the compound of a private hospital near the Kozhikode railway station. Although the police initially did not take up the case, they later registered the First Information Report, after the DRI obtained an order from the Kozhikode Chief Judicial Magistrate.
