The police on Friday arrested two Idukki natives with 50 kg of ganja during flash vehicle checks at Mukkom in the district. Afsal and Dhaneesh were allegedly on their way to deliver ganja to their clients.

The police intercepted their car at Odatheru at Mukkom following a tip-off received by the Koduvally Deputy Superintendent of Police.

The ganja packets were found hidden in the boot of the vehicle in two big sacks.

The police said the youths hailing from Adimali were on their way to Kozhikode after a suspected delivery near Areekode.

The two were mainly targeting wholesale agents. It was one of the biggest seizures recently made by checking squads, they said.

The youths will be presented before the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Court at Vadakara.

With Onam season round the corner, the police and Excise squads have intensified vigil against the smuggling of liquor and drugs. Special squads have been constituted in the city and rural areas to conduct surprise inspections.
