Govt’s second anniversary fete begins in district today

Minister to open Kozhikode Fest; seminars, cultural programmes among events

The district-level events to mark the second anniversary of the Left Democratic Front government will begin on Thursday.

A cultural procession will be taken out from the indoor stadium premises at 3 p.m. It will cover the mofussil bus station, Mavoor Road, C.H. Flyover and culminate on the Kozhikode beach. Elected representatives, Kudumbasree volunteers, college students, and police and fire force personnel, among others, will take part. Band sets and art forms will add colour to the procession.

Minister for Labour and Excise T.P. Ramakrishnan would inaugurate ‘Kozhikode Fest’, a week-long exhibition-cum-sale, at 5 p.m., said a release from the district administration.

He will also distribute title deeds. Transport Minister A.K. Saseendran will distribute financial assistance under the Chief Minister’s relief fund.

A. Pradeep Kumar, MLA, and Mayor Thottathil Raveendran will be present.

A musical programme featuring hit songs of Mohammed Rafi and Mukesh will be held at 6.30 p.m. A food festival featuring Kozhikode’s ethnic cuisine will be part of the fest and 20 stalls will be put up there. Various government departments too will put up stalls showcasing welfare schemes and services.

The IT Department will provide free Wi-Fi there and the Health Department will hold medical camps. Seminars will be held. Kerala Kalamandalam, Kerala Folklore Academy, Kerala Mappila Kala Academy, Tribal Affairs Department, Information and Public Relations Department, and Bharat Bhavan-Thiruvananthapuram will hold cultural programmes.
