Govt. captured hearts of poor: Minister

Union Minister Prakash Javadekar responds to Congress vice-president's taunts stating, "It [NDA govt] has already captured the hearts of the poor"

Hitting back at the taunt by Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi about the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government at the Centre, Union Minister of State for Environment and Forests and Climate Change Prakash Javadekar has said that it is only a daydream of the Congress leader that the Narendra Modi government will not complete its five-year term.

He was inaugurating the first anniversary programme of the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government here on Wednesday. “Here is a government working with the blessings of the people. It has already captured the hearts of the poor with several welfare measures. The statement of the Congress vice-president is pointless as he has no idea what to say and where to go,” Mr. Javadekar said.

Pensions

The Union Minister said that crores of people did not have a bank account even though nationalisation of banks took place in India 45 years ago.

This government provided facilities for opening a bank account to 15 crore persons in a record 100 days.

The BJP government took a historic decision of providing at least Rs.1,000 as pensions, he said.

Mr. Javadekar said the previous Congress-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government had decided to bestow on a platter the coal fields valued at $50 million to 150 private companies.

“Even thieves do not steal coal. Now this government that followed a transparent deal through auction of 30 coal blocks in the country fetched Rs.3.5 lakh crore. The auction of the 2G spectrum again got Rs.19,000 crore. The UPA government used the five elements of nature — land, water, air, sky, and fire — for corruption,” Mr. Javadekar alleged.
