The police are on the lookout for a gang of 10 persons who allegedly attacked a Civil Excise Officer from the Perambra circle office while he was on duty along with two senior officers at Poozhithodu within the Peruvannamoozhi police station limits on Sunday.

The case was registered on a complaint from N. Raju, the injured officer.

An Excise official said the gang had turned aggressive when Mr. Raju questioned their act of smoking in public.

He was later admitted to hospital with injuries, the official added.

‘Arrests soon’

The police said all the suspected attackers were from Peruvannamoozhi, and that they would be nabbed soon.

They have been booked under Section 353 (assault or criminal force to deter a public servant from discharge of his duty) of the Indian Penal Code.
