Steps will be taken to immediately release the ₹5-lakh compensation within two weeks to landowners residing in less than 10 cents of land and who had allowed GAIL to lay natural gas pipeline in their land.
This was decided at a meeting chaired by District Collector U.V. Jose to review the progress of the GAIL project at the collectorate here on Wednesday.
Mr. Jose has urged the GAIL general manager in Kochi to speed up the process of examining applications and disburse compensation. The project would be completed in a time-bound manner, he said.
Landowners only need to submit an affidavit to the village officer stating that they have no other land in their possession other than the 10 cents of land, the meeting decided.
The Collector also urged GAIL authorities to take mitigative measures when constructing section valve stations in flood-affected or flood- prone regions at Ayyancherry, Kottoor, Puthoor and Unnikulam.
Deputy Collector (Land Acquisition) Shamil Sebastian and GAIL deputy general manager M. Viju took part in the meeting.
