FIR against CPI(M) leader fabricated for RSS: Jayarajan

Industries Minister E.P. Jayarajan has accused the police of fabricating the first information report (FIR) filed against a CPI(M) branch secretary at Perambra at the behest of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS).

CPI(M) leader Athul Das was arrested on Saturday following a clash between activists of the Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) and the United Democratic Front (UDF) near a mosque during the hartal on January 3. He has since been remanded in police custody.

Mr. Jayarajan said here on Monday that RSS cadre had thrown stones at the mosque during the hartal. Some police officers, who were close to the RSS, hatched a conspiracy to frame the CPI(M) leader in the incident, he claimed.

“It has been learnt that some charges in the FIR are baseless. There has been an effort to divert the nature of the incident and stoke communal passions,” Mr. Jayarajan alleged.
