The Rasmi Film Society organised a protest here on Sunday against what it termed attempts of the administration to gag freedom of speech in the country.

‘Worst reply’

The protesters said that jail was the worst reply an administration could give to a polite letter written by film-maker Adoor Gopalakrishnan and other prominent personalities to Prime Minister Narendra Modi pointing out the mass lynching and communal polarisation of the country.

Poet Manambur Rajanbabu presided over the function.

Rasmi Film Society secretary Anil Kuruppan presided. Writer G.K. Rammohan, V.M. Manoj, V.M. Suresh Kumar, Babu Shanmukhadas, Asha Kalluvalappil, K.M. Indira, Anees Koothradan and Noushad Mambra spoke.

A. Sreedharan welcomed the gathering.

Haneefa Rajaji proposed a vote of thanks.
