Nayeem Ali Khan, the main suspect in the Omassery jewellery theft case, tried to escape from the police custody after jumping off a bus at Balussery on Monday.

The Bangladesh native who tried to run away was later overpowered by the police and admitted to the Balussey government hospital.

According to the Balussery police, the man tried to escape from their custody while he was taken to Kannur jail from the Thamarassery Judicial First Class Magistrate Court.

Nayeem Ali Khan was one of the three persons who tried to rob the jewellery at gun point on July 13.

The jewellery staff had managed to overpower him who later on fell unconscious and admitted to the Kozhikode Medical College Hospital.

Meanwhile, the Koduvally police said they had detained one more suspect in the case from West Bengal. He would be brought to Kozhikode soon by a special investigation squad, they said.
