The newly-elected members of the Kozhikode District panchayat were sworn in at a simple ceremony here on Thursday.
District Collector N. Prasanth administered the oath of office to A.K. Balan, the most senior member of the District panchayat. He in turn administered the oath to other members.
The other members who administered the oath included: A.T. Sreedharan (Azhiyoor division), P.K. Shailaja (Edachery), Ahmed Punnakkal (Nadapuram), P.K. Sajitha (Mokeri), P.G. George (Kuttiyadi), Najeeb Kanthapuram (Kattippara), Babu Parassery (Balussery), V.D. Joseph (Eengapuzha), Annamma Mathew (Kodenchery), C.K. Kasim (Thiruvambadi), P.T.M. Sharafunnisa (Omassery), M. Reena (Chathamangalam), C. Usha (Pantheerankavu), P. Bhanumathi (Kadalundi), Rajani Thadathil (Kunnamangalam), T. Jumailath (Kakkodi), M.A. Gafoor (Madavoor), V. Shakkeela (Narikkuni), Mukkom Mohammed (Nanma), A.M. Velayudhan (Atholy), Sreeja Pullarikkal (Ulliyeri), Shalini Balakrishnan (Arikkulam), Sujatha Manakkal (Meppayur), M.P. Ajitha (Payyoli Angadi), R. Balram (Maniyoor) and T.K. Rajan (Chorod). Addressing the swearing-in ceremony, District Collector N. Prasanth said the voters in the district were having huge expectations from the newly elected body of their representatives regarding developmental affairs. “It is time to rise up to the expectation of voters. With the cooperation of all, we had a very peaceful election in the district,” he said.
MLAs, A. Pradeep Kumar, A.K. Saseendran, E.K. Vijayan and C Moyinkutty were present to view the oath-taking ceremony along with outgoing district panchayat president Kanathil Jameela.
After the oath-taking session, the members also attended their first council meeting at the District panchayat hall. Additional District Magistrate T. Janilkumar and District Panchayat secretary M. Salim addressed the meeting.
