Disha award for M.K.Arjunan

Noted music director M.K. Arjunan has been selected for the first ever Disha award in the name of late music director M.S.Baburaj.

The award is being given considering the wholesome contribution of Arjunan Master to the film music genre in Malayalam. The jury members were Harippad K.P.N. Pillai, N. Hari and Alankode Leelakrishnan.

The award carries Rs.25,000 in cash, citation and memento.

The award will be presented at 4 p.m. on October 16 at Tagore Centenary Hall in Kozhikode by Film-maker Kamal.

The official inauguration of Disha Samskarika Vedi will also be held on the occasion. Noted media critic Sebastian Paul will be the chief guest. Three female artists from the field of theatre, music and kathaprasangam will be honoured by actor Mamukoya on the occasion.

Disha plans to honour not just people who have been in the mainstream, but lesser known yet deserving individuals as well.

Ten musicians who have played a key role in every orchestra in Kozhikode for decades will be honoured on the occasion by Arjunan master.

General Secretary of Disha and noted playback singer V.T. Murali will lead the musical evening later, in which artistes including Disha members will take part. Singers Chenagnnur Sreekumar, Feroze Babu, Nilambur Shaji, Cochin Sherif and Razak Kondotty will be part of the show.
