The Kozhikode City Corporation will partner with voluntary organisations, political parties, residents’ associations and elected representatives to provide flood relief.

At a meeting held here on Thursday, Mayor Thottathil Raveendran said ward councillors should be contacted if there was a need to set up relief camps within corporation limits. Areas surrounding the moffusil bus stand, Rajaji Road, Gandhi Road and Eranhipalam bypass are waterlogged. Flood waters entered the Sarovaram Biopark from the Conolly canal. Areas around Azhakodi too are inundated.

A 24-hour control room would be set up at the corporation office to coordinate the flood relief work. The corporation health officer and health supervisor can be contacted on 9895770777 and 8547887549, respectively. Relief committees would be set up in each ward involving the ward councillor and residents’ associations. Residents’ contribution to the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund would be collected through the ward councillors.

Construction companies, agencies, and contractors have been requested to lend their equipment for relief work. Kudumbasree is collecting relief materials and the medicines collected from various sources would be handed over to the camps. The Mayor said in a release that cleaning works would be taken up by the ward sanitation committees once the water level receded.
