Irked by the “undeclared ban on recruitment” to district cooperative banks following the government’s decision to set up a ‘Kerala Bank’, jobseekers are planning to hold a ‘symbolic PSC examination’.
The District Coop Bank All-Kerala PSC Rank Holders’ Association, which represents 6,000 people short-listed by the Kerala State Public Service Commission for appointment as clerks / cashiers, has decided to hold a symbolic PSC test in front of the State Secretariat on May 24. The test, which will take double the usual PSC test duration, is aimed at highlighting the sad plight of qualified candidates.
The PSC had conducted a written test for clerks / cashiers to be appointed at the 14 district cooperative banks in December 2015 and brought out the rank list in January this year. However, after the government decided to set up a Kerala Bank by amalgamating all district cooperative banks, the Registrar of Cooperatives froze all recruitments and opening of new branches. Later, the government also sacked the board of directors of all district banks.
“These measures have put a question mark on the future of around 6,000 rank holders. The association is now demanding that the government de-freeze recruitments and fill up vacancies immediately,” the association said.
