CMP dharna at rail station today

January 29, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:38 am IST - Kozhikode:

The Malabar regional committee of the Communist Marxist Party (CMP) will stage a dharna in front of the Palakkad railway station from 10 a.m. on Thursday in protest against the “continued negative attitude meted towards the State in general and the Malabar area in particular by the Union government and Railways.”

CMP general secretary C.P. John will inaugurate the dharna. Some of the demands of the party are electrification of Shoranur-Mangaluru line on a war-footing, replacing the Palakkad-Pollachi-Pazhani-Madurai route; introduction of a speed train between Mangaluru and Thiruvananthapuram, completion of the proposed coach factory at Palakkad, and starting of Jan Shatabdi Express between Mangaluru and Madurai. — Special Correspondent
