Chandy to open KSCAT training centre

Chief Minister Oommen Chandy will inaugurate a training centre for the visually challenged at Farook College here on Saturday. He will also lay the foundation stone for a new block for postgraduate and research studies for the Department of Physics in the college.

Principal E.P. Imbichikoya told reporters here on Thursday that the training centre was the first venture of the Kerala State Centre for Assistive Technologies (KSCAT) under the Kerala State Council for Science, Technology and Environment.

The centre would provide training in computer, information technology and communication skills.

The courses would be held in 8-month long modules with an intake of 20 students. It would benefit a large number of visually challenged students in the college.

New building

The new building for the Department of Physics was being built at a cost of Rs.3.5 crore by a prominent industries group in the district, Prof. Imbichikoya said.

Education Minister P.K. Abdu Rabb would inaugurate the computer lab specially designed for the visually challenged.

Minister for Social Justice and Panchayats M.K. Muneer would preside. M.K. Raghavan, MP, would inaugurate a seminar in this connection.
