‘Centre protecting fishing companies’

June 15, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:38 am IST - Kozhikode:

State president of Yuva Janata Dal Salim Madavoor has alleged that the central government was trying to protect the interest of large fishing companies and thwarting the traditional fishing industry in the country by imposing the prolonged trawling ban.

Mr. Madavoor was inaugurating a coastal janasabha organised by the party at Chompal harbour in Kozhikode on Sunday against the BJP-led government’s move to facilitate deep sea trawling for foreign fishing vessels, against the law.

District president Ramachandran Kuyyandi presided over the function.
