After more than a year of delay, the ₹60-crore high-tech cattle feed factory of Kerala Feeds Limited at Thiruvangoor near Koyilandy is set to be opened on Friday.

Animal Husbandry and Dairy Development Minister K. Raju will inaugurate the factory at 11 a.m. His visit to the factory five months ago had revived hopes of opening the factory that had been remaining idle since its inauguration in January 2016.

The factory, which had a capacity to produce 300 tonnes of cattle feed and 60 metric tonnes of goat feed a day, had not been able to secure a building number from the Chemmencherry grama panchayat since the Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) had refused to give power connection. A flaw detected in the construction of the stairs of the feed mill tower of the factory had been cited for the delay. Subsequently, the issue was taken up with Minster for Local Self-Governments K.T. Jaleel recently.

The factory is located on 10.72 acres of land that was earlier under the possession of the Coconut Development Corporation.

The factory with computerised machinery has plans not only to cater to a large number of small-scale and large-scale dairy farmers in the Malabar region, but also to supply cattle feed to different locations in the State through 2,600 outlets.
