Akshaya units ready with digital lockers

10GB space for each user

June 22, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:38 am IST - Kozhikode:

Akshaya centres in the district have started offering digital locker facility announced by the Union government to help citizens preserve and easily retrieve documents saved in the virtual space in digital format.

The digital locker can be opened in Akshaya centres using biometric card or separate username and password.

Easy retrieval

Officials said the facility would help users keep all important documents at a single location and retrieve them easily. All certificates, including those issued by departments such as Revenue and Education, can be kept in the digital locker, they added.

A user will be provided 10 GB space in the locker.

The aim of the project, according to Akshaya officials, is to slowly replace the conventional system of enclosing various certificates for government-level references. Once the digital locker facility becomes popular, users can just quote the number of the uploaded file in the applications, which will be verified by the agencies concerned at the time of screening them, they said.
